Shannon Lee is a former "prairie girl" from Winnipeg, Manitoba who now resides in Langley, British Columbia. Her debut CD "Kiss 'n Tell" was released in 2003 and received critical acclaim and airplay in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the US.
This multi-talented singer/songwriter/pianist/guitarist has completed a follow-up album entitled "Pot of Gold". The new work contains 13 original tunes written by Lee and Colin Rankin (formerly of The Russian Judge). The two have paired up to write songs with an entirely different flavour.
Growing up in Winnipeg, Shannon Lee honed her skills as a musician by studying classical piano and guitar as well as playing the alto saxophone in the school concert and stage bands. Her love of drama motivated her to train at the Manitoba Theatre Workshop. Later, Shannon could be seen in various plays and musical theatre productions including on Rainbow Stage. As for the music scene, Shannon and her bands were a regular feature on the circuit at Winnipeg clubs. Shannon toured from Alberta to Ontario with various incarnations of cover bands - including a 7 piece horn band! She was the keyboardist, vocalist and dancer with The Mike Lehman Show.
Shannon's theatre credits include: Wendy in University of Calgary's "Peter Pan"; Gwendolyn Fairfax in the Langley Player's production of "The Importance of Being Ernest"; Blackie in the University of Manitoba's production of "The Milktrain Doesn't Stop Here Anymore" by Tennessee Williams and the Flames of Paris model in Rainbow Stage's "Irene".
Musically, Shannon Lee is equally comfortable sitting at a grand piano singing jazz and blues or fronting a rock 'n roll band. Her versatility as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, dancer and actor has led to a varied and interesting career as a performer.
Shannon performed in Colonel Webb's lounge at The Marlborough Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba for 2 years in the mid-80's. Some of her favorite venues to play in her home town were the Winnipeg Stage Door ("I was so nervous the night that Billy Joel and his band walked in after their concert!") and the Rory Street Marble Club.
For the past several years, Shannon has been performing in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia with her trio. Popular places to catch Shannon Lee and her original act are Beecher Street Cafe in White Rock, The Gourmet Gallery in Abbotsford or Del Pollo Restaurant in Langley.
The Shannon Lee Quartet with Colin Rankin (guitar), Johan Worst (bass), Dave Dutchyn (drums) and guest vocalist Raina Morgan (Shannon's 17 year old daughter), will be featured for the third year in a row at the Abbotsford Envision Coffee House Concert series in the spring and fall of 2010.
